I’m…I’m…speechless. I…I…holy crap. And I used to get upset during his annual August vacations. How the devil am I going to start my mornings now? I mean…I mean…but he’s been there forever. I can’t remember not listening to Morning Edition with my morning coffee and hearing that calm voice with the silly returns. It’s…it’s…ah, crap.

Well, …. yeah, crap. Good word for it. I’m a half hour from today’s Morning Edition. Heck, I remember when he and Susan Stamberg WERE NPR, nightly on All Things Considered. I followed Bob from ATC to Morning Edition, and watched him make it THE premier news program, bar none. I thought it was hell when he took the year off to write his book on Red Barber, but we knew that was temporary. This… well, this just sucks.
However, there is one bit of good news in this release for you, Chuck: they aren’t saying that Susan will “fill in” during the interregnum!
(Yeah, we really don’t have a lot of love for Ms. Stamberg. Wrecks my entire weekend when she takes over for Scott on WeSat. –cfs3)
