Helen Thomas

Filed under: Radio Today, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 12:43 pm

Helen Thomas was a part of the White House press corps for decades, covering every president since John F. Kennedy. In 2007, Bob sat down with Thomas in her Washington office to discuss her long and impressive career; while after her marginalization by George W. Bush, this interview was recorded before she was a bit too honest about her opinions on actions by Israel. From the introduction:

First, our regular Monday political analysis from Washington Post columnist David Broder. Then we’ll hear from Helen Thomas, who’s been writing about Washington even longer than David has. Thomas was a White House correspondent for UPl from the beginning of the Kennedy Administration until seven years ago when she became a columnist for the Hearst papers. She still attends the White House press briefings, only now she shares her opinions and not her reporting. And Helen Thomas will offer many of those opinions on this program today.

Yes, this program begins with David Broder, and some of the conversation has resonance with the recent election. But the bulk of the hour is with Helen Thomas, grand dame of the Washington press corps.
