Mary Roach Tackles the Afterlife

Filed under: Radio Today, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 2:11 pm

My winter cold is in full bloom (I usually have one cold every winter that lasts from November to April), and so naturally I am thinking about…death. ;)

Mary Roach, a prolific author and frequent guest on The Bob Edwards Show, visited in 2005 to talk about her book Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife. From the show open:

One new book appropriate to the season is Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife, and its author Mary Roach joins me to talk about the soul. Over the years, people have tried to determine where the soul resides, can its weight be measured, and where does it go when the body meets its end.

This conversation is after Sam Tanenhaus, then editor of the New York Times Book Review, makes some suggestions of books that deserve attention. The complete show is posted below - this version is from a CD that was lying around the offices, so while it’s missing XM commercials the quality is pretty awesome! And of course the program script/roadmap is included here as well.

Please feel free to let me know what other programs/guests you’d like to hear in the comments.
