Daniel Schorr at 100

Filed under: News, Radio Today, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 11:02 pm

Daniel Louis Schorr was born on August 31, 1916, one hundred years ago today. And the guy lived an amazing life, managing to cover the bulk of the 20th century; reading his own name on live television from Richard Nixon’s “enemies list,” joining Ted Turner’s fledgling news organization, commentating for National Public Radio, and writing bunches of books, including a few we have signed.

And on January 2nd, 2008, he spent the entire hour with Bob Edwards. Below is that interview in its entirety, along with the now-ubiquitous script.

(As a passing note, I also have the unedited interview taken from the DAT recorded in the studio and salvaged from destruction by Chad Campbell. Tomorrow I plan to listen, and if there are any nuggets not included in the broadcast interview, I’ll let you know.)

RIP Gene Wilder

Filed under: News, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 6:14 pm

From CNN: Gene Wilder, star of ‘Willy Wonka,’ dead at 83

On March 16th, 2007 Bob Edwards interviewed journalist Ken Silverstein, actor Richard Dreyfuss, and the late actor/author/comedian Gene Wilder - what a day! From his introduction:

I’ll talk with Gene Wilder, one of our best comic actors ever, and he too has headed in a new direction. The onetime screen collaborator with Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor is a writer now. His first novel is titled, My French Whore: A Love Story.

They talk about the book, Gilda Radner, Wilder’s career, and pretty much anything else that comes to mind. I’ve included below the broadcast from March 28th, 2007, and the accompanying script.
