This is the feed for iTunes to load the podcast. Why so difficult and non-standard? Beats's why I use Juice and not iTunes.

FLASHBACK: Lee Abrams Planning AMRC Launch

Filed under: Radio Today, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 4:07 pm

Ok, I’ll admit it…being the “Chief Curator” of The Bob Edwards Show archives is as much of a hoot as it is a lot of work. Digging through paperwork, audio, and even video is time-consuming and frequently painstaking work, but when you find the jewels, all of the work is just so worthwhile. Some of the paperwork here long pre-dates the program…remember that Bob Edwards was hired by XM in the middle of 2004.

Yet here is this email from June of 1998, back before XM Satellite Radio existed and the company was still named American Mobile Radio Corporation. Lee Abrams was writing Hugh Panero, CEO of the fledgeling company, on his proposed plan for “launching” the company and its ambitions to the music industry. In sometimes blunt language, Mr. Abrams suggests the steps to get the music industry on-board supporting the company before it had one satellite in the skies.

I especially like:

7/30 BEGIN A WEEKLY “NEWSLETTER” TO THE INDUSTRY. “The Hughnet Bugle”…a weekly 2-3 page newsletter that is mass mailed to everyone in the Music/Entertainment world updating on what we’re up to.

I wonder if any editions of The Hughnet Bugle were ever produced? Wonder if I’ll find a copy in the files?

RIP Elie Wiesel

Filed under: News, Radio Today, Bob Edwards Archives — Charlie Summers @ 8:16 pm

From CNN: Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, dead at 87

In 2007, Bob Edwards hosted Mr. Wiesel for a full hour conversation. From the introduction:

My guest today is Elie Wiesel, a man who has spent nearly his entire life bearing witness to the worst that people can do to other human beings. Wiesel was just a boy when he was imprisoned by the German army, first at Auschwitz in southern Poland, then at Buchenwald in Germany. Thirteen years passed before he could write about it. When Wiesel’s generation passes, no one will be able to give a first hand account of the Holocaust. Perhaps that will cheer the Holocaust deniers—which currently include the President of Iran. Earlier this year another denier physically attacked Wiesel in San Francisco.

The complete program is below, along with a copy of the script used during the program.
