Amish Farming Draws Rare Government Scrutiny
From The New York Times: Amish Farming Draws Rare Government Scrutiny
From the article: “…Farmers…are facing growing scrutiny for agricultural practices that the federal government sees as environmentally destructive. Their cows generate heaps of manure that easily washes into streams and flows onward into the Chesapeake Bay.”

The federal government should get out of the office and go out to the mid west to dairy farms and see that manure is put to good use. Here in McHenry County, there are lots of cow. The numbers a getting smaller because of of residential development. The new residents don’t like smell of manure. The farmers spread the manure as fertilizer for crops that is grown for feed and for human consumption.
A friend of mine, who retired from business, started a very small farm growing vegetables, Tomatoes, Peppers etc. All natural the farmeres gave him, free, manure to fertilzer and he bought Lady Bugs by the bucket that were a natural pesticide. He called his farm Lady Bug Farm. He was in his 70’s so he had a farm hand. He sold his crops to some of the best restaurants in Chicago area. His prices were high lots of profit, and cheap to produce My friend died a few years ago.

After surviving breast cancer I’ve become more aware of pesticide use and have changed to natural ones like the Lady Bugs I also have used compost tea for feeding my plants with good results.
