My One Day Away from Computers
Tomorrow is the Ides of March, and as has been my tradition for many years now (much longer than most of you have owned computers, and longer than some of you have been alive), I am spending it away from computers. I’ve commented in the past about how things have changed over the years, and about how much simpler it used to be, and I can’t help but think about it again. When I started this, everyone knew what a computer was, but now the lines have blurred so that I can’t quite figure out how to be true to it. My cell phone has much more computing power than the machines I used to avoid for this day. Should I avoid it? If it’s ok to use it, should I send tweets (Twitter messages) with it, or only use it for voice? The television, microwave, almost everything has a computer in it nowadays.
But then, I don’t work all that hard…I just spend a day away from keyboards, the Internet, and work, and instead watch an old TV show, read a book, take a walk, and just enjoy the day. Soon enough, it’s over and I’m back in front of the keyboard, looking forward to next year’s day without.
