From The Los Angeles Times: Radio relics preserved, then tainted
From the article: “The carefully preserved original scripts, fragile transcriptions of radio shows and news broadcasts, antique microphones and rare equipment from Southern California’s first stations have been contaminated by toxic PCBs. And nobody can agree who should pay for the cleanup.”
Joe Salerno posted this link to the Internet OTR Digest and I wanted to make sure it received wide distribution. This is enough to break the heart of any OTR lover…
First off, let me apologize for not getting more posted regarding last week’s Friends of Old-Time Radio Convention…just as while I was at the con I never seemed to be organized enough to have time for posting, this week has been busy and convoluted as well. I’m working on finding the time to post some pics and additional thoughts, honest.
A few people who were at the convention asked me about the photos of Hal Stone that ran before the comedy panel. The moderator, Derek Tague, asked me if I could put together some pics of Hal to be used as a tribute to him, and it was impossible for me to refuse. Some people have asked for copies of the short piece, and so I include it here so those who were there, and those who weren’t, can see it.
