How you can support the services here…
This was posted to the Internet OTR Digest earlier today, but for those of you not subscribed, I thought I’d repeat it here.
Folks;
I am “hijacking” this issue of the Internet OTR Digest; I promise the next issue will contain the usual dose of Old-Time Radio-talk, but this is going to be one of those blissfully-rare admin issues requesting support for the OTR services. I admit the timing could be better, but this is about the only time I have, being between conventions (the recent Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention and the up-coming Friends of Old-Time Radio Convention). Links I mention throughout the article will be repeated at the bottom of the issue in AOL-friendly versions.
Before I do anything else, I want to thank all the folks who support the OTR Digest and other lists, web services, etc., whether by financial support, moral support, or simply posting questions and answers; it’s because of all of you that this place exists in the first place. I’d also like to note that no payment is _ever_ required to receive the mailing lists or visit the web sites…not now, not ever; or at least not as long as I’m operating them, anyway.
That said, there _is_ some need for support, but there are bunches of ways you can support the lists, web services, podcasts, and other OTR services here at the OldRadio.Network. Of course, financial support is always appreciated (and generally needed); we’ve recently had a price increase from the server farm that hosts the machines, for example, although with that increase came a “bump” in allowable bandwidth, which we’re using to “podcast” Old-Time Radio shows on the Nostalgic Rumblings blog at http://blogs.oldradio.net/ (thanks to Bill Scherer, we’re currently running the “Adventures by Morse” series, “City of the Dead” - much thanks, Bill!), and I’d appreciate suggestions on what programming you’d like to have “podcast” there. And don’t let the word “podcast” frighten you…there’s an embedded Flash player on the blog, so if you have a reasonably-current web browser, you can listen to the shows with no more than a single click of the mouse, even if you don’t want to download them!
