Bob Edwards’ Personal Appearance at KAZU
Talk about the show on http://www.bobedwards.info/
I’m thrilled to introduce our first “guest blogger,” Judy Galloway, who attended a fundraiser for public radio station KAZU in Monterey, CA on 08/27/2005, with guest Bob Edwards. –cfs3
Introductory note: the author is a “bobblehead” and proud of it. [“Bobblehead”: A Bob Edwards supporter, who, upon hearing of his job “reassignment” in March 2004, began a campaign of email, s-mail, phone calls and petitions to NPR.”]
Bob Edwards continues to support public radio and even NPR. He graciously agreed to attend 2 events on the same day: (1) a “dinner with Bob” and (2) and an “evening with Bob”, both in beautiful Monterey, California.
The weather was unusually warm and sunny. Unfortunately, since the dinner was at a non-air conditioned café (most coastal buildings are not air-conditioned) and it was only 5 pm it was excessively warm inside. Bob appeared nattily attired in a jacket and tie (the rest of us looked rather melted). He was joined on this trip (which also included stops in Fresno (no comment) and in San Francisco (in support of a small high school public radio station-KLDW) by Ms. Andy Danyo who is one of the current producers of the BES and is formerly of NPR. It was a great pleasure to see Bob in person again and to meet Andy.
At the dinner, I was able to speak at length with Andy and I got to speak with Bob too. I learned new information regarding the unpleasant events of 2004 at NPR that I feel constrained to keep to myself. We talked about all sorts of things, from discussing Charlie’s (much deserved) 2-in-one-week on-the-air credits earlier this month to our opinions of certain current NPR employees.
What a great time we had! Andy dragged me over to Bob to tell him that I agreed with her, Charlie and others about wanting to restore the dates in the introductions of the BES. [Note: it seems this effort has succeeded! However, I cannot take the credit. I was simply in the right place at the right time, and happened to come down on the “correct” side of what was obviously a debate within the BES team.] Andy took my photo with himself and I hope she remembers to email it to me.
