JamP3 Files…
(Note that when I get some time, I will severely edit this entry to be a bit more explanitory about what the JamP3 file is, how it works, etc. For now, though, I wanted to get these small files posted and available for anyone who needs ‘em. If you download the file, please add a comment to let me know you found this of use.)
A whole bunch of people are having problems with the ancient JamP3 MP3 player, and they frequently revolve around the tiny STA013.BIN file being missing from the internal memory “drive.” If you don’t have this file, simply click the link, download it, and copy to the internal memory (it isn’t needed on the external memory card, but must be on the internal memory “drive”). If you have a Macintosh, download Macintosh Control Panel SEA file, run it to decompress the Control Panel, drop that into your OS9 System Folder, and restart. Next time you connect your internal memory drive, if the file is missing it will be automagically added. Cool.
Added 23 September 2005: I’ve added for the Macintosh the two files in the OS 9 Extensions folder as JamP3_USB_Driver_Shim.sea - hopefully there isn’t anything else I missed, but if there is, let me know and I’ll dig it out. –cfs3

not let the MMC play back songs
Songplay from the MMC is always a seperate issue from the .BIN file. There are a bunch of reasons an MMC card won’t work. The JamP3 is known to be sensitive to specific brands of memory chips, so some MMC cards will never work. The biggest problem, though, appears to be the format of the MMC card. If it’s formatted in Windows XP, it will have the FAT12 format, which the JamP3 cannot read. You need to find a Win 9x machine, install MusicMatch, and use that to format the card - Win 9x machines will format the card with FAT16, which the JamP3 can handle. –cfs3

Thanks a million… really appreciate the selfless act of posting that little nugget. In practical terms, was almost not worth it since I burned up the price of a new MP3 player in time trying to find this file, but very, very much appreciated anyways in terms of satisfaction to get the damn thing working again!

I mistakenly deleted the bin file and used this one, worked like a charm, you are the man. MP3 player actually isn’t that bad with the exception of the tiny bit of internal memory. sure beats the heck out of spending 300 bucks on a nice one to only use for running. thanks…..

Charlie, do you have the driver and/or installer for the Mac? The Control Panel says that there is a driver missing, and it can’t work without it! Thanks

I loaded the file in the memory of my JAMP3 player but I could not solve the problem. As soon as I play a file, the buttons do not work anymore (only the pause works) and no audio comes out from the jack.
Any other suggestion?

i still cant get it too work.. i have been trying on the xp platform with dragging and dropping and on 98 but still no sound. sometimes the buttons dont work but if i take out the batters and but them back in again they do.

To get sound again or to get the buttons to work again, you may need to place the STA013.bin file in the root directory, remove batteries for 5 minutes then reinstall. Some units are different and require it to be in a directory called BIN (all caps).
