Johnny Carson, king of late night, dies

From the Associated Press via Seattle PI: Johnny Carson, the “Tonight Show” TV host who served America a smooth nightcap of celebrity banter, droll comedy and heartland charm for 30 years, has died. He was 79.

Damn.

A quick search of the net turned up an interesting article on i-Newswire which suggests Carson has been writing occasional jokes for David Letterman, who according to the release he considered the rightful successor to The Tonight Show. The story is amplified in this AP Wire story available through MercuryNews.com, and a Reuters UK story.
