And you wonder why people pirate…

Filed under: General — Charlie Summers @ 10:09 pm

You know, I’m getting really tired of getting screwed over by the “entertainment industry.” I was looking at the recently-released Star Trek DVD sets (no, I will not put bogus initials behind the series title; there’s Star Trek, and then there are all the others) and was shocked by the price; $100 per season.

Look around; quality series like 24 run $75/season…excellent series like NYPD Blues are available for $30. Yet Paramount, never satisfied to simply gouge the consumer but in this instance literally drilling into their wallet with their cash cow, wants $100 for season three, and Spock’s Brain.

I decided a long time ago that I was done giving Paramount a dime of my money; licensed Star Trek products are officially off-limits in my home (and if you knew what the series meant to me in my youth, you’d understand how serious a commitment this really is). This ridiculous pricing on the DVDs is only another example of why I made this decision.

But you know, I honestly can’t blame the people on the P2P networks who bootleg over-priced nonsense like this. Me, I can always watch the entire series on ßeta tape.
