Technology solution to slicing spam lags

From News.com: Lawsuits filed by some of the Web’s biggest players against junk e-mailers have portrayed an industry united in the war against spam–but there are few signs of collaboration in developing technology standards that could be more effective in slowing the deluge.

It never occured to anyone back-in-the-day that people would hijack other people’s SMTP servers, since everyone had one of their own. That’s why servers were designed to accept mail from anyone, and why admins are now having to deal with half-solutions to keep the bad guys out.
